Dear All,
We hope our campers had a wonderful week at Camp Heidelberg - despite the cancelled campfire and sleepover.
Our week in general was very exciting: we learned about kitchen safety and cleanliness, how to make crepes, and how to make muffins and brownies - all with a twist! :) All of us participated in the preparation of the these yummy foods: some of us read the instructions, some of us put the ingredients together, and some others stirred the finished batters. We made sure that we are safe so our campers stayed away from warm appliances, but they did so well with helping to make a campfire to prepare the brownies, and to roast marshmallows today on Friday. The rain and the thunder could not keep us away from enjoying a wonderful campfire this morning.
Throughout the week, and besides learning about baking delicious foods, we played Gega ball, lacrosse, basketball, ladder toss, Capture the Flag, camouflage, and did archery. Our crafts this week consisted of bracelets made out of plastic lacing, chef aprons, chef hats, and name tags.
Overall, we had such a great time at Camp! We just can't believe it's over! But, there are still 4 weeks left of our summer, and so hopefully we will see you again.
Wishing you all a great long weekend,
The Camp Heidelberg Staff Team :)

The crepes were ... magnifique! :)
Dear All,
Our first adventure this week was making crepes, and then, of course, eating them! :)
The day was very busy, and it took a lot of us to make sure that the crepes turned out well, and that we learned a bit about the art of making them. Our campers were phenomenal; they worked so hard at either adding the ingredients, mixing the batter, or making sure that we are adding the proper ingredients and the proper amount.
A BIG 'thank you' goes out to our LIA Practicals - Liam, Cassandra, Tommy and James - for helping with whatever was necessary.
Overall, it was a team efforts, and we came through ...with crepes in our hands first, and then in our tummies! :)
Jessica's group received 4 stars from our judges - Cassandra, James and Tommy. Stacey and Michael's groups received 3.5, and Paisley and Andrew group received 4.5. We are all on our way to become Michelin-class chefs by the end of the week! :)
We also like to thank Riley and her two friends - from Paisley's group - who helped with our value pieces today. Thank you, thank you, thank you! :)
Please see our day in pictures. You will find the recipe in one of the pictures.
See you during the week,
The 'Berg Staff :)

'MASTER CHEF' WEEK - HERE WE GO!! :)
Dear All,
We hope you had a great weekend. We also hope that you enjoyed our last week at Camp Heidelberg. The staff team would like to thank our volunteer Sabra for serving as a guest editor for our blog. She did an amazing job updating our 'nook' on the web.
In addition to the photos you see in our last entry, this afternoon we will post a few additional pictures from last week. We would just like to share with you our wonderful experiences at the camp.
This week, we will be cooking - like, really cooking - and I am not just talking about the weather! :) Today, Monday, we will be making crepes. Tomorrow, we will try our hands at making pizzas over the campfire, and then on Wednesday we will be baking brownies - with a twist! :) On Thursday's menu, you will find muffins - with, again, a twisty twist! :)
See you all at Camp Heidelberg.

OUT THE FOREST, INTO THE KITCHEN WE GO!🍴🍳
Dear All,
Week four at Camp Heidelberg has sadly come to an end. We hope everyone had fun in the forest! We ended the week with a "Guess that Song" race between groups. The campers really knew their stuff. We were still able to enjoy the usual archery and sport activities regardless of the heat because campers continued to stay hydrated, most drinking a minimum of 5 water bottles.
Water isn't enough to keep the fun going so a potluck is just what we needed. With some hot dogs, crunchy veggies and sweet treats, our taste buds are now ready for next weeks theme.
Couldn't end the week without a good 'Schmucking of the Staff'. Campers took one last run into the forest to hunt for a plate with a Staff's name on it and they were successful.
All that fun in the forest must have worked up quite the appetite. So we move into next week with the theme of Master Chef. Updates on what our master chef's cook up are coming soon.
See you all soon,
The Camp Heidelberg Staff

Here are the top 'hydrationists':

Apuroop - 12 bottles of water
Alex - 7 bottles of water
Yousef - 7 bottles of water

Sophia - 6 bottles of water
Parker - 6 bottles of water
Leander - 6 bottles of water
Atticus - 5 bottles of water

"LEAFS CAN BE FUN", SAYS MATTHEW!
Dear All,
This week we continued to explore the forests around us, but also spent time playing sports, doing archery and preparing a few amazing crafts. We made bird feeders out of popsickle sticks, and created picture frames out of twigs! :)
A very exciting and intense soccer game took place yesterday, Wednesday, at lunch. ARK was victorious over Stork with a score of 4:3. The re-match is to be played today. The campers are intensely preparing for the game!!
In the midst of all this activity we even created shelters in the 'Scmuck' forest. Some of them can hold an entire camper group!
We also made sure that we spend time in our small groups where we talked about our core values of Acceptance, Caring, Health, Respect and Responsibility. We are collecting the puzzle pieces corresponding to each of the values so that by Friday we can put together the 'Y' symbol out of the pieces! :)
This evening we are looking forward to another 'epic' campfire and sleepover. The 'Camper Council' will, once again, lead the campfire and will decide what games we are playing this afternoon.
Please see some of our pictures below.

OFF TO THE FOREST WE GO! :)
Dear All,
Our first day of week 3 - 'Fun in the Forest' - was thoroughly enjoyable! We created name tags out of 'tree cookies', did archery, played 'Capture the Flag' in the forest, and ventured down to the pond. At lunch, we played 'Camouflage', 'Ladder Toss' and relaxed underneath the Pavillion.
For the next two days, we will be building shelters in the forest, and will try our hands at creating bird feeders our of popsickle sticks.
See you during the week,

THE 'RACE' IS OVER, AND WE ARE HEADED FOR 'FUN IN THE FOREST'!! :)
Dear All,
We hope you enjoyed our third week at Camp Heidelberg! We had a great finish to the week; it was complete with a really fun campfire - which, by the way, had to be moved indoors due to thunder - a really fun sleepover complete with some dancing (and dance moves, including the 'DAB'), marshmallow roasting on Friday, and a great 'Schmuck the Staff' on Friday afternoon. What a week!!! :)
Please see below our pictures from the week.
This coming week, we are going to play a lot - I mean, a LOT - in the forest. We will also go on a pond exploration expedition, and will build forts in the forest. We are also looking forward to learning as much as we can about the natural habitat around us.
See you all soon,
Laszlo

'RACING' THROUGH THE WEEK WITH A LITTLE BIT OF SALSA! :)
Dear All,
We can't believe it's already Thursday! What a week it has been! :)
On Tuesday, even though it was very warm in the afternoon, we did manage to play a very exciting round of 'Human Tic Tac Toe'. Andrew's group won the competition, but everyone participated very well.
Yesterday, on Wednesday, we played 'Name that Song' for the morning show, and then later on, we tried our hands at making bouncy balls for craft. Well, the recipe 'bounced' away from us a bit :). Then, in the afternoon, we were treated to Salsa lessons by our friends, Frances and Haitham from KW Salseros. It was very fun learning a few basic steps, and it was also fun learning a bit of the history of this Cuban dance form! Thank you again, Frances and Haitham.
Today we will be making headbands for craft, and then will prepare for the campfire and sleepover. Tomorrow's craft is 'Magic Maze' which we will make out of shoe boxes. We can't wait to get started! :)
Thank you once again for your support of our camp.
Please see our last two days in pictures.

HERE WE GO ... WEEK TWO, AND THE 'AMAZING RACE'! :)
Dear All,
We are already in the midst of some incredible activities during our second week at Camp Heidelberg. This week our theme is 'Amazing Race', and so we will be playing a lot of games involving team building, and ... racing, of course! :)
We are very fortunate to have a full camp this week, and so it is great to see so many new and returning campers.
This week we are also trying out a new game at Camp Heidelberg. It's called 'Ladder Toss'; it's really, really fun! :)
See you at the camp,

THE FIRST WEEK JUST FLEW BY!
Dear All,
Week one came to an end way too soon! :) Our campers and staff had an amazing time preparing yummy food over the campfire, playing really fun games, and doing archery! We also wondered into the forest once or twice; we even caught a salamander - and, of course, released it! :)
The Thursday night campfire and sleepover were both very fun! We even managed to sleep a bit... :) j

WELL, ON DAY TWO ... WE WENT A LITTLE BANANAS! :)
Dear All,
Needless to say, day two was just as busy and just as fun as day one! And, we even got to make choco-bananas, played basketball, did archery and played an 'epic' game of 'Stones' on the grassy field, just outside the Schmuck Forest! :)
The first every 'Camp Heidelberg Camper Council' was formed today which includes six campers - one from each group, plus an LIA. They have already decided to have a 'Gega Ball' tournament!! :) Things move really, really fast at Camp Heidelberg! :)
Tomorrow we are making orange brownies - yumm... - and will play some awesome games and sports again.
Here is our day in pictures...
See you soon,
Laszlo and the Staff (and, of course, Tommy 'the Tomato', and James 'the really great campfire helper'.)

DAY ONE - A SUCCESS!! :)
Dear All,
We had an absolute blast on our first day! We started off the day with two of our former 'star campers' leading camp songs, and games in the gym. Then we headed of to camp for a very busy but fun day.
At Camp Heidelberg we played games, did archery, played basketball and soccer, and learned about values. And, we even watered our garden - a few times, mind you - because the soil is very dry. It's so dry in fact that we could not build a fire today; we had to be safe.
Tomorrow, we will start our campfire cooking with choco-bananas, and later on we will also have the first meeting of the 'Camp Heidelberg Camper Council', which will be made up of campers who will help decide what activities we will do for 'camp wide' on Thursday afternoon (on our Campers - to - Campers day) and what activities we will do on Thursday night, during our campfire.
We are off to a great start; we are all just so so excited to meet new friends, be active, and cook some amazing treats over the campfire.
Below you will find a few pictures from our first day, and our staff training. Enjoy; and visit us often - here, or at the Camp. :)
See you soon, at Camp Heidelberg.
Michael, Stacey, Andrea, Jessica, Paisley, Stephanie, and Laszlo - with our trusty LIA Practicals Tommy and James.

Dear All,
We are less than hour away from starting our 2016 day camp season! :)
The staff - Michael, Paisley, Andrew, Jessica, Stephanie (our LIA counselor), Stacey and I - are so, so excited to welcome our campers to 'The Berg'.
