IT'S OLYMPICS WEEK AT CAMP HEIDELBERG!

Dear All,

After our 'wild' adventures in the 'wilderness', we are enjoying 'Olympics' week at Camp Heidelberg!  The teams this week are 'The Ruthless Canadian Mavericks', the 'Lightning Scotts', 'The FUN Squad', and Team Canada.  Currently, the 'Lightning Scotts' are in the lead with 202 points.

Even though yesterday, Monday, the weather outside was not very pleasant, we tried to enjoy - and challenge - ourselves as much as possible.  In the morning we warmed up at the campfire, sang songs, did archery, and made name-tag medallions. In the afternoon, we completed the 'Great Big Camp Heidelberg' race.  All participants earned points for their teams.

Today, Tuesday, we got to know the counselors a bit better, and then the LIAs lead obstacle course-type of activities in the morning.  We also played basketball, sculpted a number of amazing crafts - including medallions - and did archery.  In the afternoon, we had a basketball tournament, a soccer-baseball game or two, and played camouflage in the forest.  Team 'RBG' came in first in the basketball tournament, followed by team 'Lime', and in the third place, we had the 'Raptors on Skateboards.'

We can't wait to continue our Olympic quest the rest of the week.

Hope to see you at Camp Heidelberg.

The Campers and the Staff :)

HOW 'WILD IN THE WILDERNESS' WERE WE THIS WEEK, DO YOU ASK?

Dear All,

Following our visit to the pond at the beginning of the week, we continued our exploration of the forests around us, and have been having a great time overall at Camp Heidelberg.

Today, Thursday, we had an amazing newspaper fashion show, which was won by Jess' group. Honourable mention goes out to Jessie, Scott, and Greg - and, of course, Paisley, the artistic director of the show. We also did archery, played European Handball, and made popsickle stick picture frames.  In the afternoon, we continued to build our shelters in the forest.  The shelters will be available for viewing this evening, before or after our campfire.

We started building the shelters yesterday, Wednesday afternoon.  Yesterday morning, we played football, did archery, made a craft or two, and went to explore the forests around us.  At the pond, our resident 'environmentalist', Al, showed us a few of the critters from the pond and talked to us about the natural environment around the camp.

Even though its already Thursday evening, there are so many things to look forward to still, at Camp Heidelberg: we are having a campfire this evening at 8:00pm; tomorrow, Friday, we are announcing the winners of the 'Camp Heidelberg Quest', and will also announce the winners of the 'Star Camper' awards as well.  And, who can forget about 'Schmuck the Staff' on Friday afternoon - we wonder which counsellor will get 'schmucked'; will it be Jessie this week? :)

Thank you for your continued support of our camp, and we hope to see you at Camp Heidelberg.

The Camper and Staff :)

WE SURE WENT 'WILD' AT CAMP HEIDELBERG!

Dear All,

Our first day of week three at Camp Heidelberg was just awesome! In the morning we got to know the camp, we met many new friends, and learned a bit about the counselors.  Later this morning we tried archery, made our name tag medallions, played giant games of 'Sticks' in the forest, and played basketball.

After lunch we played several games of Bocce Balls, Ladder Toss and Lawn Darts.

For camp wide, we wandered down to our very own pond and checked out the wildlife.

This week we have four teams competing in the 'Camp Heidelberg Quest'.  We have 'The Awesome Soccer Playing Gregs', 'The A-Team', 'The Shadow Squad', and the 'Savages of the Century'.  The winning team will have the opportunity to choose the camp wide game on Thursday afternoon, and will have its team members' names put on a plaque at the camp.  Points are earned for demonstrating the five core values of our association, which are acceptance, health, caring, respect, and responsibility.

Please see below our day in pictures.

Pictured above are butterfly eggs.

Can you spot the Monarch Butterfly in the picture above?

A male frog, on a log...hmm, I am sure we can work this into a camp song!! :)

GUEST APPEARANCES AT CAMP HEIDELBERG

Dear All,

This past week, we were delighted to welcome two guests at Camp Heidelberg - on our side of the gym, at least! :)

Please meet Bella, a former Camp Heidelberg camper! She had a blast in speciality camp this past week, but we are wondering if she would like to come back to Camp Heidelberg?!?! :)

We also welcomed Dylan, a former camper at Camp Heidelberg, and who is now a day camp staff at the A.R. Kaufman YMCA.  We hope to see Dylan - and ALL our day camp staff - at an upcoming campfire, held on Thursday nights.  Or, they can just join us for all the upcoming ones!?1? Everyone taking part in day camps this summer is invited! :)

ENJOY A FEW MORE OF OUR ACTION PICTURES FROM WEEK 2!!

Camp Heidelberg ... in pictures...week 2 - 'Wacky with Water'! :)

Enjoy!

And, we would like to introduce our guest 'blogger': Dillon, the Programmer at ARK! We are looking forward to getting to know Dillon, and hearing about how excited he is about Camp Heidelberg!

WOW...WE ARE ALREADY AT THE END OF WEEK 2!!!

Dear All,

Our second week at Camp Heidelberg seemed to have just flown by!

On Thursday we continued to work on our balloon craft, did archery, prepared songs and skits for the campfire, and then played a great game of 'Giants, Wizards and Elves' in the afternoon.

The campfire on Thursday evening was a blast! Although it was a bit cold, we had a great time introducing the counselors, singing camp songs and enjoying yummy marshmallows.

On Friday, we had a BBQ lunch and played a great game of 'Schmuck the Staff'.  Jess, Greg, Scott and Paisley were 'schmucked'.

We also introduced five star campers for this past week: Ryan, Aidan, Rusong, Brooke, and Victoria. These campers did a great job role modeling our five core values: Acceptance, Health, Caring, Respect and Responsibility.

We are looking forward to our next week, when we will be 'wild in the wilderness'.

See you all at Camp Heidelberg! :)

P.S.: Please see our week in pictures.
