Dear All,
This morning at 9:30am - when the busses from the A.R. Kaufman and Stork Family YMCAs arrived at the camp - we began our 2014 day camp season at Camp Heidelberg. The moment all of us - campers, volunteers and staff - were waiting for finally arrived!! :)
This week we are welcoming more than 70 new and returning campers. The energy and excitement could only be tamed today by the humidity and the warm weather, but we still had one of the most exciting and successful first days of day camp.
We began our day by singing camp songs, introducing the counselors, and going over camp rules. Following the morning show we quickly began our first rotations, which included crafts (we created 'year books'), archery, basketball and lessons on how to build a campfire, how to be safe around the campfire, and how to build a tee-pee out of sticks.
In the afternoon, before playing a giant game of 'nose paint' - where the object of the game was to run through the opposite team's territory without being touched, and touch a piece of white paper with our noses painted red or green - some of the older campers lead a giant game of 'Squirt-boom'.
We are taking a quick break tomorrow, Tuesday, to celebrate Canada Day, and then we'll be back in full swing, starting Wednesday morning.
For parents: on Wednesday morning we will have the sleepover permission forms available along with the description of the sleepover as well.
Happy Canada Day Everyone!
The Camp Heidelberg Staff Team and Volunteers :)
P.S.: Please see below our day in pictures.
