A VIEW FROM THE TOP OF THE WEEK!! :)

Dear All,

Yesterday and today we continued our quest for 'fun and fitness'.  And, yesterday not even a downpour or two could stop us!  Although we spent the afternoon indoors, we still managed to play soccer, have three-legged races, shoot a few bullseye and prepare an awesome craft or two.  We even tried out the land skis in the morning at the Y, and build an very tall structure out of straws-and-connectors.

Today, our day consisted of learning lacrosse skills and playing a game or two of lacrosse, having 'egg on a spoon' team challenges, fine tuning our archery skills and making duct-tape wallets, purses, and other accessories.  It was quite cold in the morning so we built a campfire to keep us warm.

In the afternoon then we had a tug-of-war tournament.  All teams put maximum effort into the competition.  We even saw the counselors compete as a team - gloriously, I might add - being beaten only by Lefty's group which won the tournament!  Teddy thinks that there might have been a rule violation - apparently Dyno and, earlier, Stix' shoes might have been made slippery by a few campers causing these counselors to fall during the competition - so there might be a rematch during the campfire tomorrow evening.  Stay tuned for the final 'call' on that one! :)

And so we are looking forward to our second sleepover of the season.  Permission forms and pot-luck sign-up sheets are available on the sign-in/out tables.  We also have maps available as well.

Thank you so much for your continued support of our day camp.  See you tomorrow at the campfire! :)

ONTO WEEK 2 - AND 'FUN AND FITNESS'!! :)

Dear All,

This morning we began our quest for 'fun and fitness' at Camp Heidelberg.  In the midst of some mist, wet terrain and later sunshine, we played European Handball, challenged each other - and other teams - in 'Tug of War' competitions and even tried a four-way 'Steal The Bacon'.

Please stay tuned for this week's team names, activities, and, of course, information about the campfire and sleepover on Thursday evening.

See you all at Camp Heidelberg,

Teddy and Camp Heidelberg Staff :)

WEEK 1 IN PICTURES... :)

Dear All,

This past Friday, week one came to an end!  It was a very successful week, and all of us - campers, volunteers and staff included - learned a tremendous amount!

We would like to take this opportunity to share the week with you - in pictures!  Please enjoy them below! :)

We also hope you enjoyed the activities, the campfire, the sleepover, and, not the least, the staff 'Schmucking' at the end of the week.

Thank you for your support, and hope to see all of you again this summer - if not sooner, then during this week, while we partake in some 'Fun and Fitness'! :)

DAY TWO OF WEEK ONE - A BLAST! LOOKING FORWARD TO...THE...(DRUMROLL, PLEASE!)...PARENT CAMPFIRE AND SLEEPOVER!!! :)

Hello Everyone,

Day two of our first week was as much fun - if not more - than our first day on Monday.  We made yummy choco-bananas, perfected our archery skills, learned how to throw a Frisbee, made name tag medallions and played a giant game of capture the flag.  And, we got inside before the downpour in the early afternoon.  Wow, it was so much fun! :)

The counselor teams are also shaping up quite well.  Daisy's 'Wolf Pack', Lefty's 'Lefty and the righties', Dyno's 'Team Awesome', Stix' 'Super Mega Salted Peanuts', and Husky's 'Pink Fluffy Unicorns' are very much even in points.  We will see by tomorrow afternoon which team and it's members will get their names placed on the 'Camp Heidelberg' sign - a relic of last year's camp.

Looking ahead to Thursday evening, we will be hosting a parent campfire and camper sleepover starting at 8:00pm.  The gates to the camp will be open at 7:30pm.  Please do not forget to pick up and sign a sleepover information sheet and permission form.  We also have directions to the camp on our sign-in / out tables. Feel free to speak to one of our staff if you need directions to the camp.  Lastly, Friday's lunch at the camp will a pot-luck lunch.  Please bring a small food item with you to the sleepover, or, if you are not sleeping over, tomorrow morning when you are coming back to camp.  We will be providing a hot dog lunch for our campers as well.

Thank you for your time and attention.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not be afraid to speak to one of our staff.  And, we hope to see you at the campfire this evening.

Teddy, Daisy, Lefty, Husky, Dyno, Stix and Red :)

P.S.: Please check out below the pictures from yesterday's choco-banana cooking adventures! :)

WEEK ONE IS IN FULL SWING AT CAMP HEIDELBERG!! :)

Dear All,

This morning at 9:30am - when the busses from the A.R. Kaufman and Stork Family YMCAs arrived at the camp - we began our 2014 day camp season at Camp Heidelberg.  The moment all of us - campers, volunteers and staff - were waiting for finally arrived!! :)

This week we are welcoming more than 70 new and returning campers.  The energy and excitement could only be tamed today by the humidity and the warm weather, but we still had one of the most exciting and successful first days of day camp.

We began our day by singing camp songs, introducing the counselors, and going over camp rules.  Following the morning show we quickly began our first rotations, which included crafts (we created 'year books'), archery, basketball and lessons on how to build a campfire, how to be safe around the campfire, and how to build a tee-pee out of sticks.

In the afternoon, before playing a giant game of 'nose paint' - where the object of the game was to run through the opposite team's territory without being touched, and touch a piece of white paper with our noses painted red or green - some of the older campers lead a giant game of 'Squirt-boom'.

We are taking a quick break tomorrow, Tuesday, to celebrate Canada Day, and then we'll be back in full swing, starting Wednesday morning.

For parents: on Wednesday morning we will have the sleepover permission forms available along with the description of the sleepover as well.

Happy Canada Day Everyone!

The Camp Heidelberg Staff Team and Volunteers :)

P.S.: Please see below our day in pictures.
