SPRINTING, RUNNING, JOGGING, OR WALKING INTO YOUTH FIT WEEK - OR WEEK 6!!!

Dear All,

We are already halfway through week 6!  Can you believe it??  We sure can't, but we don't have much time worry about that because there are a number of fitness related challenges waiting for us this week.

Yesterday, Monday, we had to stay inside because of the rain.  But, today, Tuesday, we sure made up for being stuck indoors!  Today, we played 'Name That Song' where campers sprinted to a counselor standing far in the field in they could name the song Jamie played on the stereo.  We finished off with team challenges...

Then, for sports, we had a Triathlon!!  Each group ran, jogged, or walked from the top of the Schmuck forest to the Boys' Bunkhouse, and back - an estimated 600m distance all together.  Then, for the second event, we did jumping jacks!  Well, we are so so proud of our campers: as a whole group - or all our campers and counselors - we did over 1600 jumping jacks!!  Wow; what an accomplishment!!  Some of our campers continued the triathlon in the pool, later on this afternoon.

At lunch time we also paid attention to the garden.  Sadly, we lost some veggies in the process, but there is a lot more where THAT came from... :)

We also managed to play soccer and a few field games as well during lunch.  It was great to play while the sun was out! :)

As a camp wide activity, Nature Nate lead us in an amazing game of 'Camouflage Indiana Jones Challenge'.  The pictures describe it all the best... :)

How many campers do you see in THIS picture: one, or two? ;)

Thank you for your continued support of our day camp.  Later on this week, Arianna, our guest editor, will update us all on the rest of the week's happenings.

See you at the campfire on Thursday.

WHERE DID WEEK 5 GO??

Dear All,

We have to admit that the pace at which this summer is progressing is quite hard to keep up with!!  Where did week 5 go??  It flew by but we sure had a lot of fun!

The theme of week 5 was 'Robin Hood' - yes, the arrow-splitting, forest dweller from the middle ages!  Well, the theme seemed to fit very well with our camp because we do a lot of archery and our camp is located in the middle of a forest, or forests! :) We did archery in the Schmuck forest, we had an amazing Robin Hood fashion show - with pictures coming a bit later - and played amazing games of Giants, Wizards, and Robin Hood, and a 'Robin Hood Evolution' game where campers and counselors were able to progress from being 'peasants', to Robin Hood, to a knight, to a king, and then to a dragon! It was just so so much fun.

We also had time for sports as well.  In this picture you will be able to see Nature Nate being tagged in a 'tag football' game.  Was it really a tag though, and who tagged him? You be the judge... :)

Please also check out the vegetables growing in the garden...they are just beautiful! :)

On Friday, we schmucked Selina, Yvonne and Nate.  They look photogenic with the whipped cream on their faces, don't they??

Thank you for your continued support of our camps.

FINISHING UP WEEK 4!

Dear All,

Hello, this is Arianna here! I'm one of the L.I.A.'s at Camp Heidelberg, and as of recent I've been putting together the past two blog posts for the website. I forgot to introduce myself before...so again "Hi!"

With Week 4 already having finished, it's a little hard to believe that Week 5 is coming! This past week was our Survivor week. The campers participated in actives, crafts and camp-wide games that mocked the challenges and the fun of the outdoors and the wild! This included in making stick forts, making animals masks of their favourite animals or characters, finding frogs and other creepy crawlies. :0)

Later on in the week, we held a camp-wide game of Predator & Prey, where the campers were placed in categories of herbivores, omnivores and carnivores and had to try and catch as many others and gain lives as possible! We had a lot of lucky herbivores who stuck it out....our campers sure are cut out to survive in the wild!

Below are pictures of our week....

This is one spectacularly built stick fort!

Campers found many frogs....

...and salamanders!

Campers also found lots of bird feathers...

Here's a video of the campers doing some archery..

Our camp-wide game of Predator & Prey in the afternoon...

Week 4 was a total blast and it's all thanks to you, so we thank everyone for your support on behalf of Lazlo and the rest of the staff! I also want to thank the staff for giving me the opportunity to write the last two blog posts as well!

Stay tuned for Week 5!

WRAPPING UP WEEK 3!! :)

Dear All,

Week 3 at Heidelberg is already over! Can you believe it? Over these past days of this particularly active week everyone was busy, between running fun games, singing camp songs and our weekly Campout! We also had our L.I.A.'s (Leaders In Action) run a scavenger hunt in the woods. Campers had to look for sport items drawn on plates for our sports themed week! Whichever team got the most points won. Despite the hot persistent sun that shone all week the campers and staff still managed to have lots of fun (while keeping as cool as possible of course!)

See the rest of our week in pictures...

Playing Broomball. These kids can't get enough of the fun! ;)

Campers helped water the camp flower garden...
During our Campout out we sang camp songs and also played games like Minute to Win It and Pudding Drop.....both enjoyable and chocolaty! What more could you want?

Staff members Lazlo, Paige and our new member Steph are camera ready before being "Schmuked"!

Lazlo being Schmuked....

Now Paige......

And then Steph!

All Schmucked and ready for the camera again! :P

We all enjoyed Week 3 at Heidelberg and we want to thank you all for your continued support of our camp.
Stay tuned for further updates!

WEEK 3 IN FULL SWING!! :)

Dear All,

Even though it's only Tuesday, we have done so so much at the camp!  Yesterday, we played Gega ball, made name tags, did archery and played basketball.  Today, Tuesday, we played 'Camper Bingo', which involved getting to know other campers and the Counselors.  The winners of the Bingo were Maya and Meaghan; their prize: they got to lead the 'Tarzan Song' for the rest of the campers! :)

Later on in the day, we worked on our year books, played an amazing game - or two - of broomball, and did archery.  After lunch, we had a campfire, and then afterwards, we played a giant game of 'Stones'.

Please see our day in pictures...

Which Counselor is this?? :)

Playing broomball...fun!! :)

The Leaders-In-Action re-named the 'Boy's Bunkhouse'...

We also found a few feathers out there...

This is what we promised to each other...

WHAT A FINISH TO WEEK 2! :)

Dear All,

The end of week 2 was more than memorable.  Despite the rain, on Friday we had so so much fun. For the Morning Show, we had an 'Egg drop' competition.  Then, because of the rain, we stayed inside and played Gega Ball, did crafts, and played board games.  After the potluck we played 'Counselor Trivia', where the Counselor with the most amount of points got a pie in the face.  And, you guessed it: Nature Nate totally won that one! To be sure, he had some really hard questions to answer, like 'what's 10+19?' and 'when did the War of 1812 begin?' :) Nate is a great sport! :)

Here is our week in pictures, and in a video...

Did that egg break?? :)

Tie dye...

And, we found a nest in the trees, near the main building...

Thank you all for your continued support of our camp.
